It was such a blast getting ready for our friends wedding, we rented out an old farm house in a small English town called Towcester. All the girls were running around the house trading tips, helping each other with our hair makeup and outfits. The ceremony took place in a old cozy church and the reception was at the grooms property under an amazing marquee.
My lovely navy poke-a-dot dress, is from everyone’s favorite plus size vintage store Re/Dress. Erica and I were picking some outfits up a shoot and this lovely dress was on the mannequin shouting my name. It didn’t take much encouragement to get me into the changing rooms to put it on. I don’t often go sleeveless, but this dress had a large amount of ruching at the back which helped it get around my back and chest and left me room for a supportive strapless bra (thank you Lane Bryant). All the details from the peplum and the pencil skirt with the razzle dazzle bow were just perfect to wear to this wedding.
My strapy rhinestone heels were left over from my wedding 4 years ago and I was super excited to get more mileage out of them, unfortunately at the end of the night they broke! I am a huge fan of taking your shoes to a cobbler but in this case they were beyond saving. The final piece to my look is my facinator, I figured for an English wedding I needed some sort of hat. Again Deb came to the rescue for me with the one I am wearing here.

Gayla Bentley designs made their debut on Brooke Elliot’s character Jane Bingum on Drop Dead Diva. Brooke is wearing The Blue Boyfriend Blouse, which you can now order on Gayla’s website. What we love about Gayla’s designs is that they look good on everyone’s figure. It does not matter what size you are, her designs will work for you!
Stay tuned because she also wears one of her designs for the season finale.
We have fallen in love with lace, and luckily for us is a key fabrication for this Fall/Winter season. There is an undertone of dark romanticism, with a mix of mystery. Lace is being featured head to toe in maxi dresses, classically tailored shirts, and my favorite new touch chrome hardware. By combining the hard touches with this lady like fabric it takes lace to naughty places while keeping a fragile feminine appearance.
The Lace Me trend is fabulous because its a fabrication and it does not care what your dress size is. Add simple touches to your closet for this fall. Shop for tops with lace detailing on the sleeve or neckline, look for skirts with lace overlay or if you want to jump in with both feet to this lace trend buy a head to toe lace dress and pair with some rock n roll inspired accessories.

Color is key with this new Fall trend. Prepare to see color combos that were only put together when you first started dressing yourself. Designers paired bright fuchsias with cherry reds, royal purples with saturated sea green. Not only are nontraditional colour pairings big for this fall, the other hues to add to your wardrobe also look for acid brights like green, yellow and pink. Take your inspiration from a Andy Warhol or Lichtenstein pop art painting.
Color Bomb is a fun trend for curvy/plus women because it’s about color not silhouette, so this trend is for everyone. Dig deep into your closet to revive your colorful items or quickly visit the sale racks at your favorite stores to shop the vibrant hues at a cheaper prices. If the full color on color is too much for you to handle just yet, start with pops of color from your accessories. My favorite for this season is fuchsia mixed with cherry red.

Curves take center stage in the newest issue of South Africa’s Cosmo Mag. Featuring 12 Plus UK plus model Kristy in a circus inspired editorial.
This shoot has inspired me to dig out my crimping iron, I am craving hair like that right now.
What do you think of the newest curvy editorial?
If all circus’s looked like this I would attend more often!
Jennifer Aniston is seen on this month’s Australian Madison magazine looking like the all american girl next door. Jezebel has released the unretouched photos showing Aniston wrinkles, freckles, and frizzy hair. You can see from the cover that more then a little retouching magic was done. Interestingly, Jezebel has received a cease and desist letter to take the natural picture down from their website. Props to Jezebel for standing their ground!

The Mad Men effect is still going strong in the world of fashion. The runway’s for F/W 2010 were full of nostalgic flashbacks to the days when women wore clothes that exaggerated their feminine form. From full on circle skirts, slick tailored pencil skirts and dresses that nip at the waist and highlight your decolatage. New touches are added with elbow length gloves, bows, skinny belts and framed handbags.
‘Lady Like’ is perfect for the curvy/plus body, feminity was celebrated back in the day and it’s easy to be transported to the 1950’s and 1960’s. If there are a few key pieces you want to add to your closet this fall and you have a hourglass or pear shape, this one is for you. Shop for dresses with full skirts, low necklines and details that highlight the waist. Have fun with the waist detail, use a velvet ribbon instead of a belt, or even add some sass with a pair of fingerless lace gloves.

Done with the 1980’s its now time to move onto the newest decade to draw fashion inspiration. This Fall 2010 season it is time for the 1990’s to have the spotlight.
Simplicity paired with understated chic are the key terms for this fall trend, minimalist pieces made in luxurious fabrics with the modern women in mind. While the pieces may not jump off the page or even seem like the most exciting thing in fashion what this trend translates easily into is instant classics due to there unfussy style and classic silhouette. Designers who pulled from this trend are looking at fashion with new set of eyes are not developing trends that will be here today and gone tomorrow but here today and be forever classics.
“Restraint” is perfect for the plus size working women, dust off your classic blazers, your wool coats, and invest in a fitted pant. Don’t be afraid to take all these items to your local tailor. Keep the palette monochromatic using camel, black, grey and navy. Donning a monochromatic look is always an easy way to streamline your silhouette.

Kim Kardashian and Blake Lively were caught wearing very similar DVF dresses. Kim opting for a higher neck line and Blake rocked a wrap. Kim K has said she wears a higher neckline when wearing a shorter dress. Blake on the over hand has been known for showing off the girlfriends and gams a little more.

I can feel the hesitation when announcing it’s time to chant “OM”. The inhale seems short and often stifled. I can hear the wheels turning, “Am I off key? Will I last long enough?” Those are often the thoughts in my head and can only assume they are in others. OM does not have a formal meaning in Sanskrit but is rather a combination of sounds, “a” “u” “m”. These three sounds offer a physical way to connect the mind, body, and breath. The Mind initiates the sound, the Breath executes, and the Body resonates. Watch the OM travel through the body. Does it get stuck somewhere? If so, that might be an area to focus on during practice.
Chanting OM is also a way to connect with the people in the room and contribute energy into the shared space. When I mention this in class, I can sense the eye rolls, the internal sighs and groans. Energy is often associated with the spiritual, metaphysical, hippie-skippy-feel-good world, but energy has more of a place in the scientific world. Energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transferred. So take the opportunity to chant OM with the recognition that there is someone out there who cannot practice today, because perhaps they are ill or no longer here. Give your OM, your energy to them, because “what is a man without energy? Nothing – nothing at all.” – Mark Twain

I love taking vacations, who doesn’t. This one was based around visiting my husbands family and going to a wedding, so I thought I needed a vacation within a vacation after all that action. My husband and I headed out to Holland after the wedding which is only a hour flight away, we visited Amsterdam, Delft and Den Haag.
While in Den Haag I was able to set up a lunch date with plus models Mayra, Danielle, and Marlous. This lunch date also included one lucky husband! It was so great getting to know some of the lovely ladies that we have featured on MP, and of course learn about the plus industry in Europe and the stores that I need to shop while I was in town.
Danielle, Marlous, Aimee and Mayra.
Stay tuned for more goodies from my adventures!
All three models are with Brigitte Models.
Mix purple – the perfect fall color for the new season into your wardrobe and at the same time stay dry from the rain. I love the longer length of this parka jacket, because there is nothing more annoying then when your legs are wet from the rain because your umbrella just doesn’t protect you.
Black is the new black. Yes, this neutral is back with vengeance. We first saw black very heavily in the punk rock trend, now it has reincarnated into to a new dark romance. This new love affair with the color black also brings new fabrications; such as lace and silk and embellishments; such as rosettes, ruffles, and pleats. This color trend is worn head-to-toe yet has a romantic allure to it. This look was seen all over the Fall 2010 runways with Julien Macdonald, Gucci, and Dolce & Gabbana all showing the trend so we had to translate it from straight to plus for our fans!
