Currently my husband and I are racing through Mad Men: Season two on DVD (Shhhh don’t tell me what happens in season three). I couldn’t help but think to myself that Christina Hendricks looks like me. I mean this in the loosest of terms. I don’t have red hair or an hourglass figure, but there are some similarities. We are both from Fairfax, Virginia. We are both in our 30’s. We are not a size 2 or 4. And, we are learning to accept and love our figures. I found myself nudging my husband saying “its me, its me”! After he peeled his eyes from the TV, I proceeded to tell him how good it feels to see her in Mad Men and explained how her being on TV is helping so many other women feel good about the skin they are in. It is nice to see a woman featured as a woman, and not a woman who has dieted within an inch of her life!
I am also loving her Mad Men wardrobe. I found some pieces that have a perfect 1960’s vibe. When shopping for clothes that have a period influence, like the 1960’s, look for a highlighted waistline (think Dior New Look), pencil skirts that hit just above the knee, boxy jackets, shift dresses, pantyhose, and stilettos.
Here are some examples from Mad Men and Christina’s personal red-carpet style:
