Crystal Renn on the Today Show

Crystal Renn addressed her fans today on the Today Show talking about her recent weight loss and her new exercise program. She says she has started an exercise routine after “seven years of being in recovery” from anorexia. While she has lost some weight, she says the pictures from the “Fashion for Passion” shoot by Nicholas Routzen were retouched so much that they made her size 10 frame appear as a size 2. She also said fashion industry bigwigs like Karl Lagerfeld, Carine Roitfeld, and Cindi Leive have told her not to lose weight.

You can see the video on Crystal Renn here.

the fact is though…there are still titles and if a young girl see crystal now and she’s considered ‘plus’…i don’t think thats a good message either.

Pretty sure my comment won’t make it in as it was edited out last time. And strangely less comments posted on anything Crystal, so are those edited out too? If she was airbrushed on just the fashion for pashion shoot, then what about the glamour shoot, the chanel show, gautier ads, the berlin fashion week shoot and the today show? She looks extremely thin in all of those too. Were they all airbrushed? You are at a crossroads Madison plus. Who are you representing: Plus size fashion and consumers or are you Crystals personal blog? We are tired of Crystal representing us.

Crystal Renn’s personal blog? Please! I see a post on Ashley Graham right below this post. I hardly consider this a personal blog for Crystal Renn. I did see this story on other blogs the other day too. Should we stop reading all blogs? Maybe you should write to Ford then Madison and find out why they call her “plus”? Hate the game, not the player.

As much as you might dislike a woman who is 5’9″ and 150 lbs representing curvy women, that’s just how the industry is. She did admit to losing weight since she relaunched her modeling career as a plus model (she was 175 at that time).. so she is still within plus model industry standards.

Bottom line is she is still healthy and bigger than most models you see in editorial shoots today. It may be a small step for curvy women, but at least it’s something.

Cindy: I totally get what you’re saying.. he word “plus” has negative connotations unfortunately. I agree with Crystal: models should just be called models.

Agreed. Just like Nicole D. said She’s not 175 pounds anymore, but she is still bigger than most typical models. Therefore, she is still considered a plus size model. Shes just exercises more and is now at a healthier stage in her body. I totally applaud her for that.
I saw her on the view this past Monday talk about the controversy surrounding that photo shoot. If you look at the photos, you can clearly see the photo editing done to make her look more thin. This is nothing new though and you can’t be mad at her for trying to defend herself about this issue. And really she doesn’t “represent plus size.” She’s just a plus size model, who has happened to become one of the most successful models in such a discriminating industry. Point blank.
