Jennifer Hudson is set to play Winnie Mandela, the former wife of South Africa’s first black president, Nelson Mandela in the film Winnie. Hudson is “honored” to play the role of Winnie Mandela as she “is a complex and extraordinary woman”. The movie will begin production in May in South Africa. Part of the movie will be shot at the prison where Mandela spent 18 of his 27 years in prison.
Hudson has also starred in “The Secret Life of Bees”, “Sex and the City”, and “Dreamgirls” where she won an Oscar.
What do you think of Hudson’s new role?
Hudson has really proved she has the acting chops. No one who watched her on American Idol years back would have guessed she’d be acting up a storm now. Despite personal setbacks she’s proving to be an inspirational role model for young women.
Its been such a joy to watch her career grow.
