We are so excited that Kay Unger is announcing the launch of Kay Unger New York separates in plus sizes these fashionable pieces are available in sizes 14W to 24W at Saks Fifth Avenue Salon Z.
Kay Unger New York has incorporated leopard print, and evening essentials like the classically cut black pant and pencil skirt. “We feel strongly that fashion isn’t about what size you are,” said Unger, “It’s about being confident with yourself and wearing clothes that fit well and make you feel good.”
We were so excited to be able to go directly to the source and ask Kay Unger some questions about why she decided to venture into the plus market. We love when straight size designers take their knowledge, detailed fit, and incorporate customer input and apply it to plus.
Why did you decided to go into plus when many designers are ending their plus lines?
We have always designed dresses to flatter all shapes, especially curvy women, so for us it just seemed like a natural extension.
What factors do you consider when developing an item for plus vs your straight size collection?
I have always designed for the plus sized woman throughout my forty years of designing. Since I have always done personal appearances where I’ve worked directly with the customers, they have always come in and told me exactly what they want and need. I take all their advice into consideration when designing my clothes, because who better to know their own bodies? Instead of just taking a regular top from our regular line and producing larger sizes, I have used my expertise and customer information to design a line that will fit and flatter a plus sized woman’s body, this line was created solely for a plus sized woman!
Where did you draw your inspiration for your spring 2010 collection?
There is no better inspiration than the customer herself. I have learned from my experience with meeting my customers that a plus sized woman is proud of her body and wants to show it off. So by taking the fit and personality of my customer, I draw from my regular collection to create beautiful prints and focus on feminine detail which makes every woman, no matter what size look and feel great!
