Anansa Sims is the daughter of Beverly Johnson, the first black model to be on the cover of Vogue magazine, and a successful model in her own right. While her Mom made her name as a straight size model, Anansa has carved her own path as a plus size model. Anansa was recently featured in Glamour Magazine as one of the seven plus size models to pose nude for the magazine. She also believes the fashion industry is slowly but surely improving in regard to plus size models, but she also acknowledges that the plus size model industry is just as competitive as the straight size. Working as a plus size model has helped Anansa embrace and celebrate her curves.
I think when you’re happy in your own skin, you don’t feel self-conscious. I’ve accepted every curve on my body, and I’ve learned to love them. If you want someone else to love you, or something about you, it must start within.
