1) Why did you decide to pursue a career in the modeling industry?
Modeling is something I’ve always dreamt of doing…. but knowing my size, I never felt I even had a chance to thrive in this field. After being laid off several times, my grandmother really motivated me to try. I finally found my niche as a plus size model and my confidence grew and I realized that I on a scale of 1-10, I was a 12! and there was nothing wrong with that!
2) What challenges that you are facing with getting into modeling? How are you handling it?
I could shoot all day every day with no problem…. however, starting a career in modeling can be financially difficult, especially if you don’t have any income such as myself. Thankfully, I have great connections and I believe in those that I work with… and it ends up being a great trade off. This truly is a give and take industry… and you will not succeed if you are selfish…. I’ve always been a team player!
3) What is your guilty pleasure?
My guilty pleasure is a toss up between traveling and jewelry. I can honestly say that I am addicted to traveling and I don’t think this will be something I can kick anytime soon! I am also a jewelry freak… every time I travel, I buy a piece of jewelry to tell the story of where I have been. Unfortunately, these two guilty pleasures go hand and hand!
4) What models and designers do you look to for inspiration?
I love love love Charlize Theron. Even though she is not plus size, there is something so mysteriously sexy about her… and I can’t figure it out. Each movie and photograph I see her in, she manages to be the epitome of what real class is! For designers, I love Balenciaga….. their concentration on accessories is so me! I consider the style to be classic with an edge.
5) What is your must have fall clothing item?
Since Chicago’s fall season is quicker than a blink of the eye… my must have fall clothing item is a great pair of boots! I have to get my feet trained to squeeze into those boots for the long winter months ahead!
6) What sets you apart from the other plus size models?
My personality is memorable and it truly shows in my photos. I am an extremely professional model that has world experience and I take deep pride in that. Once I shoot with you, I will never forget your name or your face. If I believe in you, I will tell the world – networking is my strong point – I LOVE to see people succeed…. I have often been referred to as the “spoke on the wheel!”
