Why did you decide to pursue a career in the modeling industry?

About two years ago, I decided to really try and pursue it professionally and was lucky enough to get hired as a fit model. Since then, every single job or test has been a learning experience. I have always loved fashion and I have always wanted to make something that inspires people. That’s what keeps me going when it gets tough.

What is the best piece of industry advice you have been given?

I know everyone says this, but it’s because it really is the most important thing to know: Test as MUCH as you can. I know how expensive it can be, especially in the beginning to test with photographers who are established in the industry, but you can also reach out to new photographers and friends for TFP. It’s up to you to know your body and the poses that make the clothes look the best. You have a little more freedom to try out new poses when you are testing.

And on that note, ask for feedback constantly. You might think your pose is killer, but if no one else thinks it translates on camera, you have to know that.

Finally, I’d say also to have a support system with whom you can laugh or vent at the craziness that goes with modeling. There is really no way to prepare yourself for some of the madness you will experience. One minute you are told you are beautiful and amazing and the next day you are told you just don’t have what it takes. Or maybe you go into a casting and are sure you are going to get it or you’re waiting on a callback and then you find out a few weeks later that it’s already been shot with a different model. It’s important to have a sense of humor about those disappointments; otherwise you will honestly go insane (or more insane than most of us already are, ha!).

How do you define your style? what pieces have you be loving this summer?

I like to build my wardrobe on timeless pieces that I can have for several seasons, so my clothes are generally not that trendy. Instead, I try to have fun with accessories and shoes, which often means my poor feet suffer in the name of style. In the summer, I live in dresses that I can wear with a jacket or light sweater in the day and then transfer to night with cute heels and earrings. But my favorite season has always been fall, so I am already on the lookout for trench coats and riding boots.
