How did you get into plus modeling?

I was actually approached by a co-worker out of the blue one day.  I didn’t really know her at the time, but it turned out she was also a photographer. She asked if I’d ever thought about plus size modeling. I was flattered!! I told her that modeling had always been a “secret” dream of mine. She suggested that we take some pictures, send them to a few places and see what happens. It was about 6 months later that it just kind of picked up and I started getting work.

Was it always something you were drawn to?

Yes, I love every aspect of modeling. I can remember being a little girl and getting dressed up and posing in front of the mirror then having my mom take pictures of me. When I’m in front of the camera, it’s like I come alive, I feel as if it brings out another side of me where I can be creative, expressive and free.  I also LOVE fashion and experimenting with make-up, teaching myself new techniques. It is very rewarding to see the final result; I don’t think a lot of people realize how much really goes into it.

What’s your dream photo shoot?

To do a shoot with Gilles Bensimon! He is AMAZING!  (Yes, I know this is a big dream….but it could happen! LOL!)

Any specific designer you would love to work for?

There are sooo many and they are all so different! I especially love IGIGI, Monif C.,  Anna Scholz, Tina Knowles, Vera Wang and Betsey Johnson. Can’t pick just one!

What is your favorite clothing brand?

I really like New York and Company when I’m looking for affordable, classic or trendy things. Many people don’t know that they actually go up to a size 18 in the store. I also love shopping online at Faith 21, Dereon, IGIGI and La Grande Dame who actually feature a lot of different designer’s clothes for plus women.

Which brand do you wish would do a plus size line?

I would love to see bebe do a plus size line, I think they would do exceptionally well. They have a lot of really great stuff, but only go up to like a size 10 or so.

How have you discovered your own personal style?

I like to wear things that fit my body and flatter my shape. I have to feel good in what I’m wearing or I won’t be confident. I love to keep up with the trends, but what’s “in” at the moment may not be what looks good on me. I love tunics and leggings right now and anything 80’s or vintage. I’m also obsessed with boots!!! I have periods where I’m a total girly-girl and want to wear dresses and skirts and other times where I want to wear all black and accessorize with crosses and chains. So I guess it all depends on what I’m feeling or where I’m going, but I like to be creative with it. Did I mention I LOVE fashion…lol?

What sets you apart from other plus size models?

I’m very relatable and down to earth. I am so thankful for every opportunity I have been given, and I don’t take it for granted. When I’m shooting, that’s all that matters at the moment. I give one hundred and ten percent every time.

Never… buy the size you WISH you were, but the size you actually are!! The better the clothes fit, the better you look.
