We have always liked former plus model Sophie Dahl. Her latest statement proves why we like her even more”

“As long as a curvy girl is held up as an anomaly, the whole thing is being perpetuated. When a curvy girl is no longer being hailed as different, we’ve made progress. I could talk about it for hours, but if one objects to very thin, unwell girls being used in advertising, then as a consumer, you have to make a first step. We’ve become a quite apathetic culture. It’s all well to just talk about how horrified you are, but unless you do something and write to companies, then nothing really gets done.”

Cheers to you Sophie for empowering us as consumers to take action rather then just giving a reaction!

Hamilton in Italian Elle and French Vogue

Extremely altered image in question.

Could you imagine this woman being fired from her job for being too FAT?  That is exactly what happened to Filippa Hamilton who was a model for Ralph Lauren and is 5’10, 120 pounds. Filippa had been the face of Ralph Lauren for 8 years but was fired 6 months ago when the company became dissatisfied with her body. The company continued to use her image, but whittled down her 120 pound frame to the image we see in the ad posted.  Personally, I do not find Filippa’s body to look attractive in this photoshopped picture as it looks so unnatural. As a Ralph Lauren customer (they have a plus size line), I prefer the other, more natural looking pictures of Filippa.

What do you think about the Dove “Artificial Beauty” commercial? 

There has been a lot of progress in the fashion world recently for accepting a real womans body and we couldn’t be happier. Magazines like Glamour and Marie Claire have spotlighted plus size models for editorial features and designers like Mark Fast have been using plus size models in runway shows.

Unfortunately, for every two steps forward there tends to be one step back, and this latest step back is delivered by Karl Lagerfeld with his most recent quote:

“Fat mummies sit there in front of the television with their chip packets and say skinny models are ugly.” He continued with  …the world of fashion is about “dreams and illusions,” and that “no one wants to see curvy women,” in that world.”

This leaves me very conflicted, as I adore Mr. Lagerfeld and his impact in the fashion world, not only with Chanel, Fendi, and Lagerfeld but also with his photography. He is a visionary and a rare talent. However, this quote upsets me most because Mr. Lagerfeld, who has struggled with his own weight, refuses to see the big picture of what he can do for fashion.  

The desire for real-sized women to see themselves reflected in fashion magazines and see themselves wearing Chanel or Fendi is overwhelming. Just ask Glamours’ editor-in-chief Cynthia Leive, or the designer Mark Fast, who both have learned first hand from the outpouring of support that woman of all shapes are out there and more than ready to wear trendy clothes that fit.

When Mr. Lagerfeld is ready for his change of heart, I will be the first to shop.

Khole Kardashian is on the cover of the latest issue of Life & Style, she talks intimately about her struggles with the media due to her weight.  After a 25 lb weight  loss, she opens up on how she had to develop a better attitude about the body that she was given.

Everyone criticizes me about my weight all the time,” Khloé tells Life & Style. “It’s easy for me to be like some other girls in Hollywood – not eat and become anorexic – but thank goodness I am strong-willed and secure with myself.” Self-confidence didn’t always come easy for the Kourtney & Khloé Take Miami star. “When I was a chunky little 8-year-old and I had these two beautiful sisters, I’d wonder, why don’t I look like that?” Khloé remembers. “Now I hate it when people compare me to my sisters. Kourtney‘s 5 feet, I’m 5-foot-10 and Kim is 5-foot-2. I will never look like them. No matter how skinny I am, that body will never be mine.”

A first for Vogue, featuring 4 actresses on the cover! Nicole Kidman, Marion Cotillard, Penélope Cruz, and Kate Hudson. What do you think about the cover?  Do you think they are the right actresses to feature?

Marie Claire has brought in a plus size stylist and columnist Ashley Falcon, she makes her start in this November’s issue of Marie Claire. I am so happy to see that slowly the magazine world is getting in on the wants of the plus size woman. First with Glamour and now Marie Claire, I am hoping Vogue will be soon to follow their path. Ashley does a great job in her first column of talking about the issues that plus women face, and she has even focused in on shopping for jeans. Shopping for jeans is a tough art to master even for straight size woman. Check out this article and I hope it helps you too in your search for jeans.
