The weather is finally warming up here in NYC and we couldn’t be happier to break out our maxi’s, flirty dresses, shorts and more! We’re also excited to keep a closet staple around when the temp’s heat up – summer denim. With wide-leg silhouettes returning, double-denim looks on the runways and lightweight fabrications popping up on t-shirts, we’re more than ready to embrace the trend.

For summer, introduce a lighter-weight denim on dresses, tunics, cropped-pants, shorts and even tees. Pair them with pops of color, wood accessories and espadrilles. It’s so important to keep your figure at the forefront with denim, so go for a fitted button down blouse (or even a romper) to highlight your curves.

Wanna be more bold? Go for the trendy double-denim look and pair different color denim or different washes (such as white jeans and a dark jean jacket) together. Head-to-toe colour almost always slims a silhouette and it works the same with denim. For summer, the key for the curvy figure is to invest in chambray or other light-weight denim. This will give you the same look but keep you from overheating in that summer sun.

I think its Aussie week this week as so many fabulous notable plus fashion excitement is coming out from down under! This go around you get to go behind-the-scenes for the Embody Denim photoshoot for their 2011 collection. All these pieces are designed by Natalie Walking, a former plus model who while working in NYC quickly developed a passion for creating plus denim and now she has expanded into ready to wear. I love that Levis’ is on the curvy bandwagon, love their new campaign “Hotness Comes In All Shapes and Sizes” featuring Ford+ models  Sabina Karlsson, Marquita Pring, McKenzie, & Ashley Graham. We couldn’t agree more!

The editors at Teen Vogue want you to know that denim is for every body. No matter how skinny or curvy you are there is the perfect style jeans out there made for your body. Plus model Alyona and TV star Hayley Hasselhoff are showing us how its done in an amazing article called The Jean Pool: Denim for Everybody.

Alyona, 22 is a Ukranian Model who is with Ford+ . She has walked in shows such as Prada and Marc Jacobs and been shot by Italian Vogue and DKNY. Madison Plus featured Alyona for our Perfect Summer Editorial last summer. Alyona says that she prefers jeans that are tight on top and wide at the leg just because she likes how they look and that women should wear what they love!

Hayley Hasselhoff, 18, starred in the show HUGE on ABC and is currently starring in the reality show The Hasselhoffs on A&E. She says that when it comes to her curves she likes high waisted jeans because they show off her waist and lengthen her legs. She mentions that all plus women are different and have to find what style denim works best for them.

We were so excited to attend the Just My Size (JMS) Style Symposium on October 19th-20th. The JMS Style Symposium brought bloggers from all over (one came from Brazil!) to meet with the JMS team in their corporate headquarters in New York City. The event allowed the JMS team to get feedback from the top plus size blogs on the state of the plus fashion industry as well as on JMS fashion. The conversations between all of the bloggers on what women want in general from plus size fashion ranged from more fashionable choices to better fits and more diversified offering in pricepoints and overall selection.

After JMS heard our thoughts on plus fashion, the JMS team then showed us their trend boards for Spring/Summer 2010 and Fall/Winter 2010/11 and taught us about the JMS customer. We were also able to look a prints that the design team was thinking about using for new tops and give our feedback on the print. Yes! We got to say yes or no to the prints for the clothing line!

After that, the Director of Design, Janet Freedman, and Designer, Regina Martin, shared with us their new denim assortment.

All of the bloggers get set up and wired in for a day of style, facebooking, tweeting, and blogging!

Being that I am from Buffalo, NY, I have been exposed to a fairly decent amount of fashion culture and possess a strong awareness of what is going on fashionably speaking of course! I’ve recently moved to a very rural college town: Potsdam, NY.  There is certainly a questionable amount of fashion awareness, any would be encouraging! Among the typical college sweats and hoodies, I am still motivated and committed to looking my best. When I look good, I feel good and confident!

In this outfit, I’m rocking Gap’s new Legging Jean – so soft and already broken in. I’m also wearing a graphic BCBG Generation top with a tan military style jacket also from Gap. I absolutely adore my nude flats! They’ve taken me from spring to fall and match with almost everything.

As far as accessorizing goes, I generally keep it simple, which works well in the collegiate environment. Check out my white TOY watch and sterling silver rings from Silpada with my favorite Tiffany’s silver heart bracelet!

It’s hard choosing a favorite item but when it comes to my wardrobe, I like my basic staple pieces. I am absolutely adoring my skinny jeans! Don’t you just love seeing more and more real sized or plus sized models featured in them? Us beautiful ladies with curves CAN rock them too!

Jessica Simpson landed in NYC the other day to promote her new denim line for her Jessica Simpson Collection. She promised that her jeans will deliver great bums to many women (unless your above a size 32). She is also visiting NYC to attend fashion week. MP will be keeping a close watch on what she wears.

Jessica is wearing a perfectly plus outfit. Her bootcut jeans are ideal to wear when you want to balance out your hips.  The fitted cami that she paired with her look is a closet ‘must have’ to wear under your favorite fitted tee’s or under a cropped jacket like this one here.
