Although we have had, for the most part, a very mild winter, Spring can’t get here any faster! Not just for the warm weather (although that is a huge part of it…) but because I can not wait to slip on those easy, ready to go for the day dresses! I have been yearning for those flowy dresses lately and here is why… at 26 weeks pregnant, I have not been the biggest fan of slacks and I am struggling with loving the “Belly Band!” The past few days have made me crave Spring and clicking through the very fashionable ASOS Curve website has immediately put me in that mood! Their newest collection of flawy, easy chic dresses are truly the fashion dress heaven!

Uk Style by French Connection for Sears: Go Strapless!

I recently stumbled upon this adorable UK Style by French Connection Women’s Plus dress in none other than Sears Department Store! I don’t usually wear strapless dresses, but the price was oh-so-right ($35), so I decided to give it a try.

The dress is MARVELOUS! Not only is it extremely well tailored, the fabric is a fabulous cotton/linen blend, the color is a fantastic sort of lime-yellow, and the zipper detail along the back gives it a modern twist. I would wear this dress to any daytime event, maybe even out for drinks (depending on the locale).

Outfit 1: Vintage Glam
I paired the dress with a vintage Dooney & Burke bag (thrifted), MICHAEL by Michael Kors flats (Nordstrom), a timex watch (Nordstrom) and round gold studs and bangles (vintage). To complete the look, I chose simple eye makeup and a bright pink lip (Too Faced Lip Pencil in “Lucky” with lip balm on top), and a simple side ponytail. The shoes and dress reminded me of my grandmother in the 60s, so I put on a dab of her old Chanel No. 5 and, voilá! Instant glam!

Outfit 2: Summer in the City
The look of this dress is decidedly different with a blue porcelain necklace and brown Jeffery Campbell sandals. I used dental floss to tie the necklace at the perfect length (approximately four fingers from the top of the dress to the bottom of the necklace).

Alas, I went back and bought it in another color, er, pattern (available online). Unfortunately, the quilting in this dress is not as flattering my favorite bright yellow number, but the bright floral pattern and great light-weight fabric make-up for what the dress lacks in structuring!

Yesterday, we shared a style challenge in the studio – make a simple dress work for day and night using accessories to make the look work. Why? Because sometimes a simple dress calls for your accessories to make the statement!

We wanted to try this same idea with one the season’s must-have items – the maxi dress. Chances are you already have one in your closet, and a simple maxi dress is a wonderful canvas to showcase accessories and bring a new look each time you wear it.

Day Look
This simple, black maxi dress from Style 369 can be styled in many ways. For day, try adding pops of bright color through a sunny bag and a bold, lightweight scarf. You can use the scarf to tame a bad hair day, as a wrap when air conditioning gets too cold or simply tie it around the bag. Keep the jewelry easy and simple and opt for sandals with some fun details.

We adore brights, but sometimes we don’t feel like being bold with color. Instead, we like to experiment with texture, shape and proportion using accessories that are monochromatic or graphic.
