Our inspiration for Spring is MASH IT UP! There are some traditionally conservative standards like fuller skirts, cute ballet flats, bright neutrals that are going to get tangled up with bold colors like orange, mixed prints especially florals. Headwraps & turbans are back
and add a bit of dramatic flair.

This Spring it’s about feeling and looking free, frivolous and unfettered. Women will be showing their love for their curves, for the sun and for life itself.

Madison Plus was thrilled to attend the Re/Dress NYC Indie + fashion show this past Friday. The show featured some of the best Indie plus size designs from the following brands: La’Dan’s Closet, Size Queen Clothing, Cupcake and Cuddlebunny, Nikki B Decadent Designs, shoe designer Jessica Pritchett, jewelry designer Fennimas and Luxidermy by Taueret.

The show took place at the very trendy The Invisible Dog Gallery on Bergen Street in Brooklyn, NYC and was hosted by Emily Rems from Bust Magazine. Singer/Songwriter Celisse Henderson started out the night with an acoustic performance and the runway show began! Check out some of our favorite pictures from the night!

This Friday, November 12th, Re/Dress NYC presents the exclusive INDIE+ runway show at The Invisible Dog Gallery on Bergen Street in Brooklyn, NYC.

The show will be hosted by Emily Rems from Bust Magazine, feature burlesque performer Tangerine Jones and a live performance by Singer/Songwriter Celisse Henderson. A cocktail hour will follow immediately after the show.

The designers that will be featured on the runway are:

La’Dan’s Closet, Jibri, Size Queen Clothing, Cupcake and Cuddlebunny, Nikki B Decadent Designs, shoe designer Jessica Pritchett, jewelry designer Fennimas and Luxidermy by Taueret.

Re/Dress NYC will collect non-perishable food items for City Harvest throughout the INDIE+ Weekend. Guests are encouraged to bring a food donation with them to the show. A list of desired foods is included on the INDIE+ website.

What is your Fashion Week critique of Re/Dress NYC?

My lovely navy poke-a-dot dress, is from everyone’s favorite plus size vintage store Re/Dress. Erica and I were picking some outfits up a shoot and this lovely dress was on the mannequin shouting my name. It didn’t take much encouragement to get me into the changing rooms to put it on. I don’t often go sleeveless, but this dress had a large amount of ruching at the back which helped it get around my back and chest and left me room for a supportive strapless bra (thank you Lane Bryant). All the details from the peplum and the pencil skirt with the razzle dazzle bow were just perfect to wear to this wedding.

My strapy rhinestone heels were left over from my wedding 4 years ago and I was super excited to get more mileage out of them, unfortunately at the end of the night they broke! I am a huge fan of taking your shoes to a cobbler but in this case they were beyond saving. The final piece to my look is my facinator, I figured for an English wedding I needed some sort of hat. Again Deb came to the rescue for me with the one I am wearing here.

Erica and I paid a visit this past Friday to the YFF Bloggers Conference meet and greet at Re/Dress NYC in Brooklyn. It was great to meet in person all the fabulous bloggers that we have been working with over the months. We got to meet all the fabulous ladies who put this weekend together Gabi, Sakina, Melinda, J, Hayley, Christina, Mimmi & Peppi, and Nicolette. We are such huge supporter of them and their fabulous style.

They spent there first two days meeting with Torrid,  Evans and Monif C. They got to preview Torrid’s new denim line and spent the morning with Evans previewing there Fall line, plus a sneak peak at Beth Ditto’s new line. If that was not enough they then paid a visit to Monif Cat her store in midtown got to have some lunch and shop. Saturday they spent the day with Maddy at Plus Model Mag working on their August issue, we are super excited to see how the photo shoot turns out.

Re/Dress NYC vintage and resale boutique in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn offers voluptuous women in New York a one-stop-shop for vintage and confidence. Owner, Deb Malkin, celebrated its one-year anniversary in November.  When I sat down with her this week she shared, “even in a soft economy, Re/Dress NYC has been doing remarkably well.”

It’s really no surprise, Deb’s personal frustrations with fashion for plus size women is what spurred her to start Re/Dress NYC , and you can feel it throughout the racks. Before she occupied 109 Boerum, Deb organized seven Fat Girl Flea Markets. Today, Re/Dress NYC is the only boutique of its kind offering women sizes 14+ a one-of-a-kind option from vintage to resale from labels such as Torrid to “only the cute stuff” from Lane Bryant.  I was there just 15 minutes and left with three purses for around $40!  Deb says “you can style an entire Re/Dress NYC outfit for under $100—$50 if you take your time and look for the bargains!” She loves to dress her clients so they walk out feeling comfortable and confident, never pursuing a fashion agenda.

When you’re done shopping, you can throw on your new outfit for an in-store pic that will be displayed. Re/Dress NYC also has indie designer trunk shows and a holistic class with a health every size activist.
