There are several different types of shapewear available, including control briefs, corsets, and high-waisted panties. Each type has its own benefits and drawbacks, but for the most part, they do the same thing: they provide compression around your body in order to smooth out bumps and bulges.
While shapewear can help create the illusion of a smaller waistline, it does not actually make your waist smaller. This means that if you don’t wear your shapewear properly, it may roll down and show off more skin than you intended!
Here are some tips on how to keep shapewear from rolling down throughout the day.
The first step is to reposition your shapewear so that it’s not rolling down at all. This may sound like an obvious solution, but if you’re too busy rushing around to think about this step, it may get skipped over in favor of more immediate ones. But if you make this a priority, then you’ll find that the rest goes more smoothly. There are a few ways you can reposition it. Here’s how:
If you’re wearing a cami top or something with a high neckline, take off the straps and pull them up, so they’re just below your bra band. This will give you more control over the shapewear and prevent it from rolling down.
If your shapewear rolls down as soon as you put it on, try repositioning it before tightening the straps or fastening the bra. The best way to do this is to lie down on your back and lift one leg at a time off of the floor while pulling up the shapewear. Lay back down again and stand up to reposition it again if needed.
Tape is your best friend when it comes to keeping shapewear in place. If you have shapewear that rolls or wrinkles up while you’re wearing it, get some clear tape and put it on the inside of the garment where it becomes wrinkled or rolls up. The tape will hold it in place and prevent any embarrassing moments where your shapewear shows off more than intended.
If you’re wearing a full-length panty shaper or body briefer, use double-sided tape to keep it in place. Apply the tape to the inner thigh area of your panties before putting on the garment. Then, after you’ve put on your underwear and stepped into your skirt or dress, adjust the garment so that it’s comfortably in place without being too tight. (1)
When you put on your shapewear, make sure that the bum is in the right place. This is the most common mistake women make when buying shapewear. You want the bum to be in the right place, not the front or back!
It’s important because If it’s not there—if it’s somewhere else on your body—it might start to roll down as soon as you put the garment on. So check that out first! If there’s no bum area inside of your shapewear, then this problem will never go away unless you do something about it.
A lot of women will fold their waistbands down under themselves in order to hold them in place. This is a great trick if you want to wear your shapewear but not feel like it’s becoming too tight or uncomfortable over time. It’s important not to fold the waistband down too far, though — just enough so that it stays flat against your skin without creating any unnecessary bulges or bumps.
Fold the waistband down under itself so that the fabric is folded in half with the edges touching. This creates two layers of fabric instead of one, which helps keep your shapewear from rolling down. (2)
Another way is; that if you have a pair of tweezers or a safety pin handy, you can pin the folded section in place so it doesn’t come loose. If not, it will still stay put on its own — just make sure you fold the waistband over in such a way that there are no gaps between the two layers of fabric.
